A father’s story of growing up during the Great Depression, enlisting in the US Navy and flying combat missions against homeland Japan.  Following his service, the father, Jack, works as a “Duster Pilot” for another forty years.

The story is picked up by the son, John, as he follows in his father’s footsteps as a Naval Aviator flying combat missions against North Vietnam.  John’s naval career included training as a test pilot at the US Navy Test Pilot School, and later command of two F/A-18 Hornet squadrons. Following his service, John is employed as a test pilot with the Grumman and later Northrop Grumman Corporations.

These two stories run parallel, with John always referred to as “Jack’s boy” along the way, just the way John likes it.  But, it is more than just a story about a father and his son; it entails the entire family and close-knit family friends until the end of their days.

The story also pays tributes to our veterans, of all services and eras, by telling some of their stories as well.

As the story evolves, John weaves in items of historical interest as appendices to the main story, optional to the reader, to add an extra emphasis to certain events directly relating to the father or to the son.
